Tangipahoa Parish’s Antoinette Harrell is a genealogist and local historian whose work emphasizes family lineages from Louisiana’s eight Florida Parishes.

Last week, she visited the Ponchatouls home of The Drum’s founding publisher Eddie Ponds.

Harrell interviewed Mr. Ponds to learn of the paper’s origin, the reach of its coverage, and the legacy he and his late wife Carrie has established through the 40-year-old paper. (Watch the video above.)

This interview is a part of her ongoing video series and research that preserves the history of Black Louisianans.

More than a hundred interviews and historical writings are available on Harrell’s Nurturing Our Roots blog and YouTube Channel.
