Candidates face community at upcoming forums in EBR and Tangipahoa in time for early voting

Nonpartisan community groups have organized community forums this week just in time for early voting across the state which begins Oct. 25 and ends Nov 1. The candidate forums will introduce candidates seeking Congressional and local political seats. The public is invited to attend and ask questions of candidates. Election Day is Nov.8

Sunday, October 23, 5:30pm

A coalition of community organizations will live stream a virtual judicial candidate forum for the 19th JDC Judge Race on the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Reform Coalition's Facebook page: EBRPPRC.  Candidates Dele Adebamiji, Adam Kwentua, and Gail Horne Ray are participating in the forum. Attorney William Snowden, director of the New Orleans Office of the Vera Institute of Justice and the founder of the Juror Project, will moderate.

The community partners include The Justice Alliance, Gardere Initiative, Louisiana Organization of Refugees and Immigrants, PREACH, Pumps to the Polls, Justice and Accountability Center of Louisiana, The Committee to Support Healthcare Equity, Baton Rouge Immigrants’ Rights Coalition, East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Reform Coalition, A Bella LaFemme, 1st Housing Alliance, LouisianaHOUSING, Children Empowered by Caregivers of Louisiana, Inc., and Youth Oasis.

HousingLOUISIANA will host a U.S Senatorial candidate forum to discuss each candidate’s position on housing in the state. The Who Will Put Housing First Forum will be held at the River Center Branch Library, 260 North Blvd in Baton Rouge, Thursday, Oct. 27, at 6pm.

Saturday, October 29 at 5pm

Seven candidates for Tangipahoa Parish School Board have been invited to an Oct. 29th candidate forum at the Zion Outreach Center in Ponchatoula. Hosted by The Drum Newspaper, Zion Baptist Church, Friends of Kentwood, and Nurturing Our Roots, this forum will start at 5pm with Bobby Ginn Jr .moderating. It will also live stream on The Drum’s facebook page
