Free Access for All Day: Celebrity Reading Room at the LSU Museum of Art is Sunday, March 3, 1pm-4pm
The LSU Museum of Art is thrilled to announce the upcoming Access for All Day: Celebrity Reading Room event on Sunday, March 3rd, from 1 to 4 PM. This free event promises a unique and engaging experience for the community, featuring local celebrities who will share some of the museum's favorite books. Readings will be from 2pm to 3pm.
The Celebrity Reading Room event is part of LSU Museum of Art’s Access for All Day programming providing inclusive and accessible cultural experiences for all members of the community. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore captivating exhibitions, participate in hands-on art activities, and enjoy the company of esteemed local figures as they take on the role of guest readers. Access for All Day is generously supported by the Art Bridges Foundation's Access for All program.
Speakers for the Celebrity Reading Room include:
Mayor-President Sharon Weston-Broome is the first woman elected as Mayor-President of the City of Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish. She has been recognized for service and leadership by various organizations, including the Bloomberg-Harvard City Leadership Initiative. She is the 1st Vice-President of the National League of Cities and Vice-Chair of the Mayor’s Alliance to End Childhood Hunger.
Constable Terrica L. Williams is Baton Rouge’s first female Constable and the first female Sergeant at the City Jail. She has dedicated 21 years to law enforcement and community service, including work with the homeless and underprivileged youth.
Judge Erika L. Green was elected to the Family Court for East Baton Rouge Parish in November 2021 after serving as East Baton Rouge Metro Councilwoman for District 5. She has received the PVAMU Humanitarian Award and the Baton Rouge Business Report’s 40 Under 40.
State Representative Vanessa Caston LaFleur currently serves District 101 in the Louisiana House of Representatives and is the first Black woman to hold the seat. She is a Southern University Foundation F.G. Clark Endowed Fellow, former General Counsel for the Louisiana Tax Commission, and Director of Policy and Legislative Services for the Louisiana Department of Revenue.
Councilwoman Carolyn R Coleman is a lifelong Baton Rouge Resident and retired educator with 40 years in education. She is serving her first term as District 10 Councilwoman, while being involved in various community organizations, and a member of CATS Board, Complete Streets Citizens Advisory Committee, Council on Aging Board, and Baton Rouge Gallery. She is currently restoring a retired Fire Station to serve District 10 youth, senior citizens, and organizations.
Director of Southern University Bands Kedric Taylor began his musical career as band captain and assistant director at Mattie T. Blount High School. He is a former section leader of the Human Jukebox Marching Band and assistant director of the Mobile All-Star Band.
The public is invited to participate on Sunday, March 3, in a celebration of literacy, art, and community at the LSU Museum of Art. The museum is located in downtown Baton Rouge at 100 Lafayette Street on the Fifth Floor of the Shaw Center for the Arts. General admission is $5 each for adults and children ages 13 and over. Admission is free to university faculty and students with ID, children ages 12 and under, and museum members. Active-duty military and veterans, first responders, and their families receive free admission with ID as part of the Blue Star Museums program. Show your EBT card and photo ID at the admissions desk and receive free admission for up to 4 individuals as part of the Museums for All initiative. Museum Hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sunday 1-5 p.m.; and closed on Mondays and major holidays.
