Inaugural ‘Shades of Success’ calendar spotlights achievements of 12 Louisiana Women of Color
A unique calendar released at the start of 2023 honors 12 distinguished Louisiana businesswomen just in time for both Black History and Women’s History months. The Shades of Success Calendar spotlights a different group of honorees with the goal of sharing stories of powerful women through pictures and biographies. Created by Louisiana journalists, the inaugural Shades of Success calendar provides a legacy while offering a platform where women of color thrive and shine. Part of proceeds from the $20 calendar sales will go to The Butterfly Society, a Baton Rouge-area anti-domestic violence nonprofit.
The Shades of Success calendar features:
Terri Porche-Ricks – Louisiana Secretary of Children and Family Services
Sevetri Wilson - tech founder, author and serial entrepreneur
Joy Russell - realtor and entrepreneur, who also represented Baton Rouge on HGTV’s House Hunters
Tanisha Toaston, D.O. - a rehabilitation physician with a subspecialty in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine
Krystal Brumfield, associate administrator of the Office of Government-Wide Policy for the Biden administration
Dr. Paulette Grey-Riveria – family medicine physician, college prep mentor, and health consultant
Valentina Wilson – TV news anchor, entrepreneur, mentor, and founder of the Teen Fashion Academy
Dr. Krystal Shelmire – Louisiana’s only African-American female naturopathic physician.
Avis Brown – licensed clinical social worker, board-approved clinical supervisor, and nonprofit founder
Kayla Gill – speech-language pathologist and entrepreneur
Dr. Kia Callender-Price – emergency response professional, Realtor, and founder of a nonprofit that works to house the homeless
Labeaud Colbert – a faith-based counselor, writer, business owner, professional actress, and model
These 12 honorees will be recognized at a Feb. 25 awards banquet and party at the Clarion Inn and Conference Center in Gonzales where guests will hear more about their success stories in a short film. The public is invited to attend. Register at http://theshadesofsuccess.net
Nominate a student for the African American Honorary Service Award
Tangipahoa Parish Library’s Honorary Service Award was created in 2010. The recipient of this award is an African American student who exemplifies outstanding service to Tangipahoa Parish. The student will be selected by the Award Selection Committee from nominations received from teachers, principals, or community leaders of Tangipahoa Parish. Nominate a middle school or high school student by Feb. 4. The winner of this award and all nominees will be honored at an award ceremony at the Amite Branch.
The Life of a Father Fatherhood classes resume
Fathers On A Mission creates spaces for guys to share their stories and support one another. A synergy develops from men of different backgrounds, different statuses and different races, however, one thing remains the same: fatherhood. Join FOAM on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 12:15pm or 6:30pm as they begin week one of the Life Of A Father Fatherhood classes. Various resources will be available free of charge. Organizers said the classes are designed great fathers and fathers who needs support or redirection. Sign up for class at (225) 239-7833.
