About two dozen men stood at the rail in the Senate chamber in solidarity with Baton Rouge State Sen Regina Barrow, who was accosted by Sen Stewart Cathey of Monroe.
On Monday (April 24), Cathey cursed Barrow and put his fingers near her face amid a bill dispute. Barrow said she was disrespected. Cathey apologized and said he "may have been a little aggressive."
On Tuesday, the men arrived.
"The men are not saying anything," tweeted reporter Tyler Bridges.
"I was truly encouraged and my spirit was lifted when these men showed up today to let me know that they stand with me and support me. Thank you!," said Barrow.
Cathey's Senate Bill 193 would take $7.5 million in property tax revenue from schools and the sheriff in East Baton Rouge Parish and redistribute it among other parishes. Baton Rouge collects the revenue from a tax on railroad cars throughout the state that are leased from companies outside the state. Cathey said the money should be shared depending on the rail cars' locations. When the dispute rose, He told Barrow she'd been "f-ing lied to," putting his fingers in her face.
One man said he was proud to stand with others to show Sen. Barrow she is not alone.
